it’s official ~ lockdown causes insanity
I’ve got to get out of the garret. I’m physically comfortable and safe here, but mentally, emotionally and spiritually I’m hurting. There is serious concern for the mental health of people feeling trapped and lonely during this present medical emergency. It seems that lockdown / self-isolation isn’t good for the soul.
It’s not even as though I can stay in touch with my friends on-line because my internet is very flaky. Presumably there are no engineers working to fix whatever is going wrong.
This song is pretty heartfelt for me.
Please listen sympathetically.

Lockdown Breakdown
the English do not like being told what to do

The ‘National Lockdown’ already seems to be falling apart here in England, as I strongly suspected it would.
As it’s a reasonably nice day here I took myself out for a long stroll, (which is kind of not allowed). For a Saturday morning; there were an average number of cars on the road, people were strolling in groups of 3 or more, and there were passengers on the buses. Of the three supermarkets I passed, there was only a small queue outside one of them. This is not what lockdown is supposed to look like. We are all supposed to be isolated in our own home, or standing in line for an hour or so just to shop for ‘essential items’.
Of course it does not help that Mr Plod the Policeman has been seen behaving in his usual crass, overly officious manner when it comes to telling people they can’t sit on the beach, or let their children play in their own front yard, or do solitary yoga in the park. I think the killer when it comes to police stupidity was when some senior police officers said they would be checking shopping carts to ensure that people were only buying ‘essential items’. FFS! The police have no authority to enforce a lockdown. But people in uniform like telling the public what to do.
Neither does it help when government officials and ministers are seen to be utterly ignoring their own rules. Nor when the BBC is pumping out a continuous stream of propaganda about staying at home, keeping safe, and protecting the NHS.
It seems that few English people believe this mendacious coronavirus crap any more.

Go Shopping? Stand In Line
we may ask you to wait outside the store

This morning I decided to break the coronavirus lockdown, and take a stroll via the post office and one of the local supermarkets.
The post office wasn’t much of a problem, but the supermarket was another matter. The queue outside the store, of people waiting to get in, stretched 450 yards around the parking lot. I know it was 450 yards because there were helpful markings painted six feet apart on the tarmac, (blacktop).
Conveniently for my sense of rightness it took me exactly 45 minutes to get into the store. You know what, if I didn’t really, really need some fresh fruit and vegetables I would have just given up and gone home. But, it’s also Easter Weekend so all the stores are closed tomorrow, Sunday, and Monday, so if I didn’t get some fresh food today I’d be eating out of cans all over the holiday.
Inside the store was empty, so WTF was making everyone stand in line outside all about? I’m beginning to think that the government, health officials, doctors, police, and big business are making life as difficult as possible for the ordinary man and woman in the street ~ just to prove that they can.
One can’t even go to the pub to complain and drown one’s sorrows, because all the pubs and bars are shut.
Cynicism is beginning in me.

Lockdown Exercise
the infinite mystery of the sea dwells in a mermaid’s magical heart
You may be in lockdown, which is pretty miserable, but that shouldn’t mean sitting in front of the TV all day snacking and drinking beer. We all need to stay fit and healthy during this medical emergency, and that means carrying on with our exercise routines.
Here in England I can go out for a walk in the fresh air and sunshine, once a day, providing that I stay close to the garret, (and sensibly don’t stop and talk with anyone at all).
Something else I can do is take some fun exercise indoors. My friend magickmermaid posted this music video as a comment on my blog yesterday as something different to exercise with ~ and I think it’s brilliantly hilarious. I hope you do too.
If you have any other suggestions for fun music videos to exercise to, then please share them.
I’m told laughing and sex are great exercise too.

England on Virus Lockdown
the police start enforcing draconian new powers
Just a short while ago I received a text from the UK Government saying; ‘New Rules in force now: you must stay at home. Stay at home. Protect the NHS.’
And the rules are draconian. There are police patrols out in all major UK cities breaking up any group of more than two people, and trying to get people to just go home.
There are only 4 reasons I can go outside of the garret:
- Shopping for basic necessities.
- Medical needs.
- Travelling to and from work, but only if I can’t work from home. (I don’t work anyway.)
- One form of exercise per day, (say walking the dog or going to the store).
I guess if I walk to the store, pharmacy, or my doctor, then that’s also my one piece of fresh air and exercise for the day. In any event I must stay out of the garret for as little time as possible, and stay at least 6 feet from anyone else.
A whole lot of non-essential stores are closed, by order of the government, including clothing and electronics stores. Libraries, community centres, leisure centres, hotels, campsites, trailer parks, hostels, and places of worship are also closed, initially for 3 weeks from yesterday.
Not even in wartime has England seen anything like this.
It’s no hardship for me, but for some who can’t visit their families or attend their church this may be very difficult.
Sadly, all we in Great Britain have no choice.

rule #2 applies
nobody is allowed in the garret
it’s now time to lock and bar the door
fort-up for the duration of this medical emergency
