Scenes on Sunday ~ Stelvio

there are bold drivers and there are old drivers
but there are no old bold drivers

One of the places in the world I most want to go back to is 15 miles of road between Davos in Switzerland and Stelvio in Italy.  The Stelvio Pass.

~

I drove it twice, once in a TR6

and once in a 7

~

Some are stupid enough to ride the Stelvio on a motorcycle.  It is to be hoped that they had their life assurance up to date.  Do not drive the Stelvio in bad weather or at night, unless you are very brave.

Detroit never dreamed that a road like the climb to the Stelvio Pass existed

Scenes on Sunday ~ Mountains

it isn’t about reaching the top
it is all about the climb

Tunes on Tuesday ~ White Rabbit

I’m late, I’m late, for a very important date

In the 60’s and 70s we English were not listening to Californian music, so I have never heard this track from Jefferson Airplane before.  Woodstock passed us by with barely a murmur  The reason I’m playing it now is that we English greet or friends with; ‘white rabbits’ on the first of the month, which was yesterday.  (Of course there has to be an R in the month.)

Convoluted I know, and on first hearing I’m not certain I like Californian surfer-dude bands anyhow.

But hey, I like Jefferson Starship, so I’m certain that Jefferson Airplane will grow on me, like a weed.

This track probably sounds better if you’re high.

Lindisfarne ~Winter Song

who are we as human beings
if we ignore the suffering of others?

At this time, perhaps above all others, we should remember the suffering of those less fortunate than we.  Lindisfarne once was the home of a Holy Priory, Saint Cuthbert dwelt there.  Spare a penny.

Lindisfarne, The Holy Island, holds an important place in the heart of all Christians from the very North of England.

Please listen with charity in your heart.

Is This Country?

an English Gentleman is someone who doesn’t know how to play the banjo

I have a friend who drove across country to the Ozarks last weekend.  Even with my extensive and eclectic knowledge of geography I have only the vaguest knowledge of where the Ozarks are, let alone WTF you get when you arrive.  I have the vaguest suspicion that it’s the kind of area where brothers and sisters date and cousins get married.  If you tell me so I will accept that I’m utterly wrong.  But and here’s the thing, is that where this kind of music comes from?  And, is this country?

The Staggerwing was fabulous, but a Vincent is a legend.

Please listen knowledgeably.
